Issues

  • We have spent hundreds of years building our current systems, some of which could have used an update. This process should be done correctly and through Congress. Our government was created with three co-equal branches to balance powers. It is essential to reengage in this balance and find ways forward to mitigate the erosion of any one of the Judicial, Legislative, or Executive branches. I will:

    • Make sure that anyone who has worked towards the destruction of our vital services, sciences, and history is held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

    • Not stay in Congress past retirement age.

    • Propose better retirement practices for Congress and the Supreme Court.

    • Find new ways to engage young leaders and voters of all ages.

    • Work towards tax reform. Huge companies, and the people making billions in profit earn money from our communities, they are part of the community and should act like part of the community.

    • Work to make sure the government’s physical systems like computers, and election machines are secure again.

  • We already spend enough money on health care to cover a single-payer or universal coverage system. But a lot of that money also goes towards insurance companies profits and administrators pay checks and bonuses. Under single a single payer system more money would go directly to care, and to pay the people providing that care. We would also have more choice in doctors since your doctor wouldn’t be tied to certain insurance providers. You also wouldn’t have to worry about care if you lose your job.

Everyone deserves access to health care. Women’s health choices should be between them and their doctors. I will:

    • Work with other members of Congress to get a single payer or Medicare for All system passed.

    • Work towards protecting abortion at the federal level as a medical procedure through legislation.

    • Prioritize evidence and data driven health care policy.

  • Established laws make it clear that immigrants, migrants, and visitors to the United States are entitled to the same rights as citizens because they are governed by the same legal framework. Protecting the rights of these groups is not only a matter of fairness; it is a crucial aspect of maintaining justice for all Americans. Our founders understood that the erosion of rights can lead to a dangerous slide into injustice—an understanding we must honor today. It is essential to defend the rights of every individual, regardless of their status, to ensure a society that truly values equality and justice for all. I will:

    • Work on passing legislation that will streamline the process for anyone who wants to make the US their new home, or is working here temporarily.

    • Works towards finding humane housing for those people who don’t have a direct path for resettling, or who have been caught up in trafficking or shady migrant work programs.

    • Pass legislation that reiterates that the people who are subject to our legal systems have the same rights as anyone else in this country.

  • Every parent hopes for their child to have opportunities for a rewarding life, and it’s vital that we extend access to quality education for all children, regardless of their family backgrounds. Education must encompass diverse perspectives and our responsibilities toward the environment and community. To foster informed citizens, we must recognize that everyone’s path is unique. We have a duty to equip future generations with the knowledge and skills necessary to become the scientists, leaders, and educators of tomorrow. I will work to:

    • Make sure our schools are fully funded.

    • Equalize funding across districts, and states. Right now there can be huge differences in funding from one neighborhood to the next.

    • Improve access and support systems for disabled children and those with special medical needs. IDEA and 504 programs can fall short despite the law. Many of these programs will need to be re-implemented when there is a change in leadership in Washington.

    • Improve and fully fund school breakfast and lunch programs. Many families struggle with getting breakfast and lunch because of busy work schedules and high food costs.

  • The improvement in workers’ rights and conditions at the beginning of and into the middle of the 20th century improved everyone’s quality of life. It gave us Federal Holidays, shorter work days and work weeks, workplace safety, and benefits. Strong labor rights are part of what brought this nation greater prosperity, economic freedom, and choice in employment. These rights have been chipped away at and are now under threat altogether again to benefit a few individuals and exploit the majority regardless of party affiliation. I will work to:

    • Reinstate the rights of collective bargaining.

    • Work to pass a living wage. - No more corporate welfare through low wages.

    • Improve access to disability insurance and payments.

  • Creating a strong social safety net after the Great Depression improved the lives of everyone, not just the people who directly benefited. It reduced homelessness, made cities and towns cleaner, reduced disease, increased money in circulation, and improved the economy. Many rich people today have benefited from this safety net, at least by proxy and even directly. One thing to look at is why well-functioning corporations with hundreds of billions of dollars in profit want to rely on the social safety net meant for individuals as a means of corporate welfare. People who are working full time should be able to eat and house themselves.

Basic human and civil rights have come back under attack in the last decade. Immigrants, Black and Native American people are facing renewed violence. And LGTBQ+ people are dealing with renewed and worsened aggression. Disabled people and those with chronic health conditions are dealing with more scrutiny. This is not an exhaustive list, but highlights some of the rights issues we are facing. I will:

    • Work towards passing more iron clad legislation to protect the human and civil rights of these groups.

    • Works towards creating better education about why we have the rights we do, how we can all work to protect them, and how some express themselves within those rights.

    • Work towards making sure we do a better job of holding people who have committed human and civil rights abuses accountable for their actions.

  • We need to find ways to better utilize the military budget while maintaining a strong military. Additionally, we need to improve veterans' programs and protections. The GI Bill, VA housing programs, and veterans' healthcare have strengthened our country.
